Wednesday RPG: Old School Essentials - Advanced Fantasy

The frontier village of Timbertown is astir with gossip! What’s got the sheriff acting so strange? What scared the miners into abandoning their mine? What caused that green explosion over the forest? Does the accursed Dour Tower, so long dormant atop its bleak overlook, stir with evil once more?

This is an Old-School Essentials adventure for level 1 characters. I’ll have folks generate characters at the start (it takes <10 minutes), and then the group will be free to explore a variety of self-contained adventures centered around this sleepy, troubled town. If you’ve already played some D&D, you probably know what to expect: the game will require you to explore perilous environments, solve problems creatively, and make big decisions that will impact the fate of the game world.

About the system: Old-School Essentials is a cleaned-up version of the Basic D&D rules from the late ‘70s. Compared to newer editions like 5e, this game is simpler, less combat-centric, and more tailored to exploring creepy nooks and crannies full of devious surprises. Characters die easily, but that’s part of the fun—you just roll up a new one and keep going! Secrets and treasures abound, but only the clever will live to speak of them.

About the DM: I’m Will (he/him)! I’ve been running RPGs, mainly D&D, since I was a kid in the 2000s. I love meeting new players and teaching new systems, so everyone is welcome at my table, regardless of your experience level or identity. The tone of the game will be pretty lighthearted, but expect fantasy violence: killer undead, nefarious sorcerers, extortionist bandits, that sort of thing.

• Photos may be taken at events to be used in our social media or promotional materials. Please inform the staff member running the event if you do not want your photo taken.
• Advance online registration is required.
• Anyone not registered in an ongoing event will not be allowed in the event space to maintain capacity limits.
• Food is not allowed in our event space. Drinks are allowed.
