Join us at Pandemonium for a special, 3-hour event featuring various board games set in the Star Wars universe! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start); also, the games require no prior knowledge of the Star Wars universe, so don’t let the theme stop you from joining!

LOGISTICS

We’ll begin the event at 6:00 p.m. and fill board games based on a first-come, first-join principle. The games we’re featuring and players needed to play it (plus suggested times to arrive!) are listed below:

STAR WARS: OUTER RIM

(1-4 players)

What it’s about:

Become the most renowned ne’er-do-well on the edge of Galactic society.

How you play it:

You start as a single captain of a rudimentary ship, but as you take on more jobs, you can upgrade that ship, hire crew, and become worthy of the ambitions you hold in your scoundrel heart.

Who might like it:

The fledgling rogues among us. Or, if you like games where you grow in abilities and power based on your own strategy. This is a sandbox experience with multiple paths to victory.

When you should arrive:

As close to 6 as you can. The game can run long, and there’s a few rules to cover.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, A PANDEMIC-SYSTEM GAME

What it’s about:

The republic is at war! The Separatists have built their droid armies and are intent on forcing the other planets of the Galactic Republic to join their cause. For inexplicable reasons, the Jedi lead Clone Troopers into battle. And so will you!

How you play it:

As a Jedi, you’ll fly to different planets, recruit clone soldiers, and use them to take on missions and mop up droid invasions across the galaxy. After you’ve completed all of the game’s missions, you will take on a final challenge against one of the named flesh-and-blood leaders of the Separatists.

Would I like it?

Whereas conventional Pandemic is a race to find cures and keep diseases from spreading, this game is more directed towards recruiting the right type of resources for the mission at hand. As such, it’s more nuanced than base Pandemic and requires thinking not just about the individual battles but also the final mission. How will you do?

When you should arrive:

This game falls between 1 and 2 hours, so try to arrive no later than 6:30/6:45, if you want to play.

STAR WARS: THE DECKBUILDING GAME

What it’s about:

It’s the Rebel Alliance versus the Galactic Empire, and you get to pick a side!

How you play it:

This is a dueling deckbuilding game, fundamentally, where you’ll be building your deck in order to destroy your opponent’s bases (if you’ve played Star Realms, you get the idea). What makes this one different is that you can “sabotage” cards available to draft in your opponent’s offer, so there’s a little more to do in this one!

Would I like it?

If you like a fast and interesting deckbuilding game, you may like this. If you like the satisfaction that comes from building up power over time and the thrill of victory hinging on a single card pull, you may also like it.

When you should arrive:

Any time is good. This game is known for being fast.

In addition to those three games, we’ll have a few others waiting in the wings, either to play or to generate interest for a future event. May the Force be with you all, and have fun celebrating!

And if you prefer other games, stay tuned to the Events Calendar for future announcements. One of these days, we’ll do Star Trek games
