Join us at Pandemonium for a special, 4-hour session to learn and play a slightly more complex game! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start), as this game, especially, will be a learning game.

This year, we’ve demoed Blood Rage and Rising Sun, and now it’s time to demo the final game of the Eric Lang, area-control trilogy: Ankh: Gods of Egypt.

Ankh: Gods of Egypt (2-5 players) sees players competing as one of the gods of Ancient Egypt to be the dominant deity worshiped in the kingdom. You’ll do this by controlling various places of power around the map with loyal units, clever action timing, and – weirdly enough – camel trains.

Arguably, Ankh is the most experimental of the trilogy and thus has an interesting history, critically. One early point of controversy is that the game has the two lowest-scoring players (at a certain point) merge into one god to fight the other players for victory. Not wanting to merge – and then being forced to merge – can understandably make players upset, but if you use this knowledge to your advantage, playing the game in a pseudo-cooperative way, you may be able to win, even if you spend most of the game losing.

And that, after all, is one unchanging hallmark of the trilogy: winning by losing.

So if you’ve been waiting to play this game or just want to spend time with others exploring unconventional mechanics,  join us at the table! Note that, depending on player count, we may modify the rules slightly to ensure that we finish. Nevertheless, if you prefer your exploration of games less competitive (and more sci-fi/fantasy), stay tuned to the Events Calendar for the announcement of our next game!
