Board-Game RPG Event: Alice is Missing

Join a small group of us on Wednesday night (in the backroom) for the silent RPG-in-a-box Alice is Missing. We’re honored to be able to give this game a run as it exists in our board game demo library, but this is an adult game, and it deals with inherently dark themes like: lack of agency, death, grief, helplessness , loss, tense family dynamics, and violence.

In Alice is Missing, you and the other players are working to discover what happened to Alice Briarwood, a 16-year-old, high school junior, who went missing three days ago. You are people in her life – also teenagers – trying to piece together where she is located and who may have taken her there. The game ends when you find Alice, but there’s a good chance she won’t be safe when you do (and your characters might not be either). Therefore, it goes without saying that there is adult content in this game, and it may not be suitable for those under 18. Nevertheless, we will make extensive use of ttRPG safety tools to ensure folks can enjoy the experience safely and have agency to pull back the story if things get too intense.

And that’s because it might.

Alice is Missing is a silent roleplaying game played over text message. Why is this significant? This is because a group chat – and private messages –  are how both you, the player, and you, your character, uncover the story of what happened to Alice. Because the line between player action and character action is so thin, and the setting is regrettably realistic, the experience can be powerful and moving, if you let it. We will take the responsibility to the story, the characters we briefly inhabit – and to each other (likely strangers at the start!) seriously. 

Unless otherwise stated, we will be using Discord as the platform, so do bring a device with the app installed. Do note that typing is required for this game, as there are only two instances where you speak out-loud as your character.

This is a game that folks mention only needing to play once, but if there’s strong interest – or the timing doesn’t work out for you this time – note that we plan on sharing it with the community in the near future.

RULES FOR ATTENDING: 

• Proof of COVID vaccination is required at EVERY EVENT. Either the presentation of the physical card or a clear picture will suffice. Pandemonium does not keep any records, written or otherwise, of vaccination status.
• Advance online registration is required.
• Anyone not registered in an ongoing event will not be allowed in the event space to maintain capacity limits.
• No food will be allowed in our event space for the time being. Drinking is allowed.
