Board Game Event: Learn to Play Rising Sun

Join us at Pandemonium for a special, 4-hour session, featuring the area-control game of gambling and alliances: Rising Sun! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start) -- but this session will be a little different than our typical offerings.
Note that the game will convene at 5:00 p.m. to make sure we can explain the rules and finish the game.
For as long as we've been running these events, there's been one consistent request: demo Rising Sun. And now, after some behind-the-scenes work, we're able to do it!
Rising Sun (3-6 players) is, fundamentally, a game about controlling territory. Set in a pseudo-mythical period of Japan's history, Rising Sun sees you take on the responsibilities of a single samurai clan. Your mission is to have the most influence in specific areas of the board through tactical deployment of your strongholds, soldiers, and any yokai you recruit to suit your designs.
But it's not just that. The game encourages you to form -- and betray -- alliances when it's strategically advantageous to do so. And although combat is typically won by the faction with the most military presence in a given area, there are no guarantees. You use accumulated wealth -- and ronin -- to gamble that you'll outbid your opponent in different tactical options without quite knowing whether your enemy is trying to win a conflict or intentionally lose. Like its sister game, Blood Rage, sometimes losing battles can mean winning the war.
So if an evening of political mind games sounds like fun to you, or if you just want to spend time with others who want to play, come on out! And if you prefer other games, stay tuned to the Events Calendar for future announcements!
And do note that, even though our demoed game has limited seats, you can still come by Pandemonium for our Open Tables Sunday night.
