Join us at Pandemonium for our 3-hour, bi-weekly session to learn and play games! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start).
Board games are full of stories. Sometimes, they’re tales of great triumph – other times, of crushing defeat. But sometimes – like with tonight’s selection of games – the games themselves are about telling stories. And although the challenges are often more creative than technical, we hope you can still learn – and enjoy! – one or a few of the following this evening:
Once Upon a Time (2-6 players): A game of competitive (sort of) storytelling! As a group, players take turns weaving together a story using card prompts they play from their hand; other players may interrupt, interject, or assist as the rules allow. A player wins a round if they’re both able to empty their entire hand of story cards and play their unique conclusion card. If you like your games to feel like games (and don’t mind a little silliness), you should enjoy this one, especially if you play to have fun (rather than to win).
For The Queen (2-6 players): “The Queen is under attack. Will you defend her?” This is the question that you and your fellow players answer in the final round of the game. Although this experience is more of a guided conversation than a mechanical undertaking, you get to collectively decide if the Queen still deserves your deference after exploring your memories of how she has treated you. Your answer, at the end, may surprise you.
‘Till the Last Gasp (2 players): This is a game that’s about recreating a climactic duel between two rivals and discovering the nature of their rivalry as they fight. Although you will be taking on the role of one of the duelists (thus making it the one near roleplaying game in this selection), the game is less about winning the duel and more about the story you discover with your competitor. If you want a memorable experience, this is one to try.
The Quiet Year (2-4 players): This is a collaborative map-making game with just a little bit of roleplaying. But in reality, you and your group of players aren’t taking on any particular role: you’re just trying to figure out how the one quiet year of a post-apocalyptic community goes until the Frost Shepherds arrive. If you want to explore the possibilities or storytelling in a tabletop space, try this one out.
So if you ever wanted to learn these games or just want to spend time with others who like playing games, come on out! And if these aren’t your cup of tea, stay tuned to our Events Calendar for future announcements.
If you’d rather we meet at a different time OR if there are any board games in our collection you’d like to see us feature, let us know by filling out the Google Form here!
