Join us at Pandemonium for our 3-hour, bi-weekly session to learn and play a selection of games from our demo library! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start).
Tonight’s event will feature four games about “terraforming” (mostly conceptually, but sometimes actually) in order to score points or make patterns that help you score points. Some really interesting games made this category (including our one library game with a 3D, magnetized playing surface), so if you like games that are less about direct aggression (and more visual puzzle solving), come to the event to play one or two of the following:
(Note that in some cases, we’re writing this before we learn the game, so always trust your own research over our blurbs!)
Planet is a 3D, tile-laying game about optimizing the connected biomes on your hand-held planet in order to optimize for some species of animals over others (to score points). It’s technically in our Family Game section, but we think it’s still engaging enough for adults to try.
Kingdomino is a game that’s about building the best land using mechanisms adapted from dominoes. Turn-order depends on what tiles you choose, so there’s a little extra strategic depth to an otherwise straightforward mechanism.
Cascadia is a tile-laying, token drafting game similar in spirit to Planet but about the Pacific Northwest of North America (hence “cascadia”). Scoring is variable, and the scoring conditions have a little more variety than some of the others tonight.
The Wolves is the most directly competitive of the games tonight (a priori, at least). In this one, you’re the leader of a wolfpack trying to claim the most land by making your wolf family progressively stronger. Some of that involves directly interacting with the land (by flipping tiles), thus adding another strategic layer to the game.
So if you ever wanted to learn these games or just want to spend time with others who like playing games, come on out! And if these aren’t your cup of tea, stay tuned to the calendar and newsletter that will announce our next session. (Note that we also have Carcassonne in the library, in case you were wondering where it was in this list! That’s always an option to play as well.)
If you’d rather we meet at a different time OR if there are any board games in our collection you’d like to see us feature, let us know by filling out the Google Form here!
