Pandemonium is proud to bring back a recurring board game event! Join us for a 3-hour, bi-weekly session, where we’ll learn and play 1-2 light- and medium-weight games from our demo library and also introduce you to some games that might be like them. You’re especially welcomed if you’ve never played board games (or are maybe a little uncertain about where to start). Also, if you want to play any games in our library (or bring your own), this is the event and time to do so (just let the staff member know your plans when you come in).
We have three games to demo today, one of which is for a large group (two teams of up to four), and the other two are for pairs. Each of these games is about two sides of a conflict that have mutually exclusive goals. Some of those goals come from being on opposite sides of a war, merely following orders, and others are far more personal. We have all three in our library, so we thought we’d break them out to share!
-
Captain Sonar (1st edition*; two teams of up to 4): You and three other players crew a submarine team trying to complete an objective before the other submarine team (on the opposite side of the table). Each of you will have a role – captain, first mate, engineer, and radio operator – and will have certain duties you need to complete to keep your boat running. This game is notable for being played in real-time, and each team’s radio operator will be listening to the other team coordinating in order to find them in the water. So if you like tense but fun team games, try this one out.
-
Blitzkrieg! (two players): Billed as “the wargame for non-wargamers”, Blitzkrieg! allows you to play WW2 from the strategic perspective, choosing where to allocate resources and which theaters of war to support – all in 20 minutes (at least as advertised). Godzilla (!) can show up, too (though that’s in the alt-history sequel scenario that you can also play). The game requires adapting to new information more than thought-out strategy, but it’s also fast enough to play if you don’t know whether you’d like that or not.
-
Till the Last Gasp (two players): This is a game that’s about recreating a climactic duel between two rivals and discovering the nature of their rivalry as they fight. Foremost this a storytelling game, which is to say that it’s less about winning the duel and more about the story you discover with your competitor. If you want a memorable experience, this is one to try.
If you’d rather we meet at a different time OR if there are any board games in our collection you’d like to see us feature, let us know by filling out the Google Form here!
*Pandemonium sells the 2nd Edition, which has some cosmetic improvements and a few changes to some roles, but it is more or less the same team dynamics and gameplay.
