Curious about Daggerheart and want to get a feel for the system? So are we! That’s why, at Pandemonium, at least for the rest of the 2025, we’re going to run learn-to-play sessions of Daggerheart, taking especial emphasis on the collaborative nature of this tabletop roleplaying game.
As a note, we’re using these sessions to gauge interest for Daggerheart in our community before (potential) semi-closed, mini campaigns next year. This is also a chance to try out the game before the next prints of the book make it to the store, just in case you’re thinking you want to run it for your own group!
COLLABORATIVE?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Arguably, Daggerheart is designed to shine best when played as a multi-session campaign with the same group of characters and players, week-in and week-out. This is because characters in the game are, narratively, created with ties to other members of the adventuring party and are, mechanistically, designed to be strongest in the team for which they were crafted. Put another way (albeit more confusingly), it’s almost as if the players who assemble to play Daggerheart play the party, not necessarily their individual characters.
That style of play is not always easy to do for public events at a game store, but we can get a close approximation. Therefore, each session, we’ll run character creation followed by a brief, improvised adventure using the ruleset’s one-shot generator to see how the game plays. Although we’ll teach you how to create characters and give you a chance to practice the game’s core mechanics, the intention of this event is to show Daggerheart as a collaborative ttRPG and get you familiar with that style of play if you’re not used to it.
ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE SESSIONS?
As stated before, we’re running these sessions as a way to get experience running the game ourselves, so do expect – and please accept – mistakes along the way! But we’re excited to try it out, and we’re excited to share.
As for materials, we’ll provide character sheets and pencils and extra d12s. If you’d like, you can bring a standard 7-die d20 set, but it is not strictly necessary. You do not need to build a character (or even know the rules) before attending.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Pandemonium staff. Otherwise, thank you for your interest, and we’ll look forward to seeing how this goes!
