Community-Selected Board Game Event: Half-a-Year, and So Many More to Play!

Join us at Pandemonium for our 3-hour, bi-weekly session to learn and play games! You’re especially welcome if you’ve never before played hobby board games (and are curious about where to start). You’re especially welcome if you wanted to play games that we featured at events earlier this year that you weren’t able to attend – because that’s the point of tonight’s session!
For tonight, we’ll spend the next several days voting on the game we’re going to play. Each of these games were featured at our demoed nights, but we didn’t get to play them (and some of them, we did, because they prove to be popular!). You can find a link to that survey at the link here, and you can follow the progress of our group vote at the virtual bulletin board here; we’ll announce the winner the day before at that same link.
A brief description of what you may expect from each game is below (it mirrors the survey); Pandemonium product descriptions are linked when applicable. Vote accordingly, and join us at the table!
-
Captain Sonar (1e) (two teams of up to 4) -- team versus team submarine combat.
-
Zombicide (2e) -- cooperative (up to 6): mission-based, tactical adventures that always involve putting the undead to rest (sometimes, of course, via heavy automobile).
-
The Quest for El Dorado -- a game of choices! Do I make my expedition stronger or race to the finish?
-
Vaalbara -- the lowest card wins the round and every player has the same hand of cards! How well can you read minds?
-
Above & Below -- building a city above ground, and going underground for choose-your-own-adventure style questing
-
Once Upon a Time -- how well can you finish someone else's story to get your unique, fable-esque ending?
-
For the Queen -- the Queen is under attack. Do you save her? Your answer may surprise you.
-
Canvas -- a simple -- yet deep -- game of creating art/chaining card combos.
-
Ravine -- a party-game-meets-survival-adventure, where the island is just as unpredictable and dangerous as your fellow survivors.
-
Steam Up: A Feast of Dim Sum -- a 3D tile collection game where the tiles are dim sum hiding in stacks of steamer baskets. More game than gimmick, actually.
-
*Alice is Missing -- a silent RPG where you play as a fifteen-year-old girl’s friends and family trying to figure out where she went. For adult participants.
-
*Twilight Imperium -- the grand galactic strategy game that is more about politics and economic control than war – even though there are tiny ships (and not-Death-Star space stations) to build.
-
Scythe -- resource management on a shared board; brinkmanship politics.
-
Dead of Winter -- can be punishing via random chance, but still creates great stories
-
Flamecraft -- the worker placement game where the better you play, the better everyone else's game becomes.
-
Wyrmspan -- not just Wingspan with dragons. A bit more strategy -- and, accordingly, more combos — than you might think.
*You’ll also notice that the organizers are collecting information about games folks might want to play in the future that will warrant separate events. That’s why you’ll see them here and on the survey.
So if you ever wanted to learn these games or just want to spend time with others who like playing games, come on out! And if you’d rather wait for our next demoed event (it may be about the particulars of constructing buildings), stay tuned to our Events Calendar for future announcements.
