On Monday, May 1st 2023, Pandemonium will be dropping our masking requirements. Customers will no longer need to wear a mask when browsing or participating in most events. All event participants will still be required to show proof of vaccination. That part of our policy will not change, and is unlikely to for quite some time.
There will be some store events where masks will be required. These will include some author signings as well as some D&D sessions, at the discretion of the attending author or the DM running the session. Any masking requirements will be clearly included in the events' descriptions.
Additionally, we are more than willing to accommodate folks who want to have masked events if there is sufficient interest. We have a smaller event space that we could use. It is removed from the main event space and has a separate HVAC unit for better air circulation. If interested, please email Event Manager Tristan at events@pandemoniumbooks.com.
The decision to relax requirements was not quickly or casually made. To our knowledge, Pandemonium is the very last game store in the Boston area to do so. We’ve been tracking the level and severity of Covid ever since the state of Massachusetts dropped masking requirements in July 2022. We primarily used data from the MWRA Wastewater Tracking site as well as the state’s Covid Dashboard:
Should the data indicate a significant surge of Covid, we will not hesitate to re-impose masking requirements at Pandemonium.
