Welcome to the Battle of All Time – Heroscape has returned!

This evening, at Pandemonium, we’ll be celebrating the relaunch of a game 20 years in the making by demoing (and playing!) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.. If you remember Heroscape, feel free to scroll down to the logistics section, but if you’re wondering what it’s all about, keep reading.

Why is it the Battle of All Time?

Heroscape let its players ask the important questions; namely:

In a battle between WW2 paratroopers and an orc riding a dinosaur, who would win? And how does that change if you throw, vikings, samurai, and alien-hive creatures into the mix?

But what is it really about?

Heroscape is a game about head-to-head fighting. You build squads of 3-10 miniatures and use them to complete objectives (often involving combat) on a three-dimensional board that you build before the scenario. What made the game special – among other things – is that it took the complexity of tactical miniature games and abstracted them to the simplicity of a board game.

 But more than anything else – and in the opinion of tonight’s organizer – it’s a vehicle for the imagination. Not only can you get creative with the mechanics (which troops mesh well, where to move for optimal positioning or defense, etc.), but you build the maps on which you fight and decide, in advance, why the warriors will be fighting there. 

Does your castle border an active volcano? What is worth protecting there for an outpost to exist? And, can your ragtag group of samurai, elves, and Valkyrie defend against the robots and vampires and zombies approaching your door? You and your opponent set the stakes and discover the story by playing.

Logistics – or — So What Are We Actually Doing?

We’ll have enough Heroscape for three battlefields at once, and folks will have options from which to draft their armies. All-told, that’s anywhere from 6-10 players at any given time. Feel free to drop by and play a fast round or stay all night and meet some new people!

In addition to the new sets released the week before, we’ll also have a special treat: an original Master Set from 20 years ago! Some of the iconic heroes in the series first appeared in this set, so we didn’t want to have the event without them.

And, if you’ve never played Heroscape before (or you vaguely remember it), feel free to attend: newcomers are certainly welcome! And, if you’ve been playing since 2004 (or thereabouts) and want to bring an army, you can do so too.

(But note that tonight will be a celebration – competitive play will come later!)

Either way, we look forward to sharing this game with you all, and we hope to keep playing it regularly at the store.

RULES FOR ATTENDING: 

• Proof of COVID vaccination is required at EVERY EVENT. Either the presentation of the physical card or a clear picture will suffice. Pandemonium does not keep any records, written or otherwise, of vaccination status.
• Advance online registration is required.
• Anyone not registered in an ongoing event will not be allowed in the event space to maintain capacity limits.
• No food will be allowed in our event space for the time being. Drinking is allowed.
