PBG Newsletter: Naomi Novik, Tomorrow at 7 PM! 07/16/2010 05:03 PM
Hello readers! This week's newsletter is going to be short and sweet!
Pandemonium is pleased to host Naomi Novik at 7:00 PM TOMORROW (July 17th) in celebration of her newest novel, Tongues of Serpents.
Naomi Novik is an American novelist from New York. She studied English Literature at Brown University and Computer Science at Colombia University. She also participated in the design and development of the Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of the Undertide.
Naomi is also one of the founding board members of the Organization for Transformative Works, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the rights of fan creators, as she is also a fanfic writer and fan vidder.
Her Temeraire series is set during an alternate history version of the Napoleonic Wars, in which dragons not only exist but are used as a staple of aerial warfare in Asia and Europe. The dragons of the story are portrayed as sentient and intelligent, capable of logical thought and human speech. The series centres primarily on events involving Temeraire (the titular dragon) and his handler, Will Laurence.
In the latest installation, Laurence and Temeraire (exiled to Australia) must navigate treacherous political waters to protect three dragon eggs.
Her website is http://www.temeraire.org/.
We look forward to seeing you there!

July 24th: Malifaux Tournament
Join us for our first tournament for the explosively popular miniatures game, Malifaux!
Doors open at noon, first round begins at 1:00 PM. Entry Fee is $10.00.
Each of the three rounds will consist of a 30-Soulstone Scrap. Players may bring up to two Masters, choosing one to lead their Crew each round. Players may not change their selection of Minions between rounds. EXCEPTION: Master-specific Totems may be swapped out with their appropriate Masters, provided they cost an equal amount of Soulstones. The "generic" Totem for each faction may not be swapped.
All models must be fully painted, and players must bring their own Fate Decks. A normal Poker deck will suffice, so long as the difference between the Red and Black Jokers is readily apparent. No proxy models will be allowed, with the exception of Mindless Dead, who may be represented by any appropriately-sized zombie figure.
Each round will have a single Strategy, announced by the judge at the time of the event. Additionally, each player may enact up to two Schemes per round as per the normal rules, but may not enact the same Scheme twice over the course of the tournament. EXAMPLE: A Guild player chooses Raid and Bodyguard as his Schemes for the first round. He may not enact either of these Schemes in Round 2 or 3.
Standings will be determined by total Victory Points earned from Strategies and Schemes over the course of the tournament. Additionally, players earn 2VP for each round won, and 1VP for each round tied.
Store credit prizes will be issued based on attendance. Additionally, the top-ranked player for the tournament will receive the out-of-production GenCon 2009 promo model, "Gremlinette", fully painted by expert painter Steve Frantz.
